Des Moines River, a river of Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri, some 530 miles (853 km) long. From the source of its west fork in Minnesota, it flows generally southeastward to the Mississippi River. For about the last 30 miles (48 km) it forms part of the Iowa-Missouri border. Major tributaries include the Raccoon and East Fork Des Moines rivers. There is no commercial navigation on the river.
