Nueces River, a river in Texas, 338 miles (544 km) long. From its source in Edwards County, it flows generally southeast to Corpus Christi Bay. Under Spanish and Mexican rule the river formed the Texas boundary, but when Texas became independent it claimed land southward to the Rio Grande. This dispute was among the causes of the Mexican War, 1846-48.
