Pocono Mountains, a mountainous area in northeastern Pennsylvania. It is a part of the Appalachians. The mountains extend northeast-southwest and form part of the eastern edge of the Allegheny Plateau. The Poconos' maximum elevation is about 2,200 feet (670 m) above sea level. Scenic slopes, forests, and lakes make the Poconos a popular resort area.
