Salmon River, a major river of central Idaho. The Salmon River flows from the Sawtooth Range generally northeastward to the town of North Fork, then westward to Riggins; from there it winds northwestward to the Idaho-Oregon border, where it flows into the Snake River. The total length of the river is 425 miles (685 km). The Salmon flows through several spectacular gorges and has long stretches of rapids.
