Yerba Buena Island, a United States government reservation of 300 acres (120 hectares) in San Francisco Bay, California. It was formerly called Goat Island. Yerba Buena is the midpoint of the San Francisco-Oakland bridge. A tunnel carries traffic through the humped island. A causeway connects Yerba Buena with man-made Treasure Island. In Spanish the name Yerba Buenameans "good herb." It was the original name of San Francisco.
